Talespinner Tier List Hub
Rankings are guidance—patch notes and hero kits matter more than a single letter grade.
Talespinner launches on Steam and Nintendo Switch with more than two hundred battle cards, fifty-plus companions, and three heroes whose exclusive pools change what “strong” means. This hub collects wiki tier guidance so you can draft faster without treating any list as immutable law. Flash Cat Games will balance cards after launch; Kwalee patch posts belong in Updates and should trigger a reread of any tier page here.
Important stance: every tier list on this wiki is guidance, not esports gospel. Runs are roguelike—RNG, Storybook branches, and scenario enemies shift value. Use tiers to break ties between reward options, not to refuse fun synergies that already work in your hand.
What we rank—and what we skip
We rank cards, build directions, and companions on dedicated child pages because those systems interact differently. We do not pretend to rank every yokai or Storybook event here; those belong in guides such as Storybook Encounters and route pages like Hattori or Yuki Onna.
Hero-specific cards receive extra context on Gyokushin and future hero pages. Neutral rewards that appear in multiple runs are the backbone of the Cards Tier List.
How to read letter tiers
S — Run-defining. Pick or build around these when offered unless your HP crisis demands pure block. Often enables boss plans.
A — Reliable. Strong in most biomes with minimal support. Safe early picks.
B — Contextual. Excellent in specific scenarios or with certain companions; skip if your deck lacks setup.
C — Niche or tempo-negative. Playable with support but often a skip when two better rewards appear.
D — Rarely worth the opportunity cost. Only take when the alternative is actively harmful or you are completing a known synergy for achievements.
Tiers assume Ascension-style difficulty at default launch balance. Lower difficulties forgive greedy picks; higher twists punish them—see Updates for twist notes from demo history.
Cards versus builds
Card tiers judge individual rewards. Build tiers judge directed strategies—Gyokushin Jade banking, Dragon density, weak spot racing, charm-control shells, tempo slashing, and hybrid Storybook economies. Trick builds—status-heavy lines built around Prank, Muddy, and exhaust pressure—get a dedicated page because they behave differently from raw damage tiers; start at Trick Builds before forcing every card into a single letter band. A B-tier card can be S-tier inside a build that cares about its tag, which is why the Builds Tier Guidance page exists separately.
When a card and build page disagree, trust the build page if you committed to that strategy three nodes ago; trust the card page if you are still generic mid-biome.
Companions and tier overlap
Companions modify combat or events without always showing up in card tiers. Some spirits reward staying above half HP; others punish low HP every turn—Okuri Inu-style risk profiles appear in developer yokai posts. Read Companions Tier List alongside card tiers before assuming a combat pick beats a charm reward.
Tools that complement tiers
Numbers help but do not replace reading card text.
- Deck Synergy Tool — sanity-check whether a reward fits your tags
- Story Points Tool — spend currency on nodes that feed your build plan
- Hero Comparison — pick a hero whose kit matches the build you want to tier toward
Patch discipline
After every patch listed in Updates, rerun your mental tier list:
- Did Dragon, Jade, or Fury numbers change for Gyokushin?
- Did shop prices or Storybook costs shift?
- Did a companion passive get nerfed?
Demo history already adjusted cards such as Death Between Heartbeats, Fists Follow Fury, and channeling rules—launch will continue that trend.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common Talespinner questions.
Is this tier list official?
No. It is fan wiki guidance based on launch mechanics, demo balance, and developer posts—not an endorsement from Flash Cat or Kwalee.
Why are some cards missing ranks?
New patches add cards faster than wiki updates. Check Updates and in-game text when a reward is absent here.
Do tiers differ between Steam and Switch?
Rules aim to be identical across platforms. Input and UI differ; card power should not.
Should beginners follow tier lists?
Use A-tier defensive picks early, then experiment. Completing runs teaches more than copying S-tier labels blindly.
